  • Braves' Michael Harris: Does light running

    Rotowire

Harris (hamstring) began running Wednesday, but there's still no timetable for when he'll be ready for a rehab assignment, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

Harris suffered a Grade 2 hamstring strain June 14 and was able to do some light running for the first time since sustaining the injury. Considering he still has multiple checkpoints to hit before being sent on a rehab assignment, Harris can safely be ruled out until after the All-Star break.

  • Braves' Sean Murphy: On bench Wednesday

    Rotowire

Murphy is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Giants.

After making back-to-back starts behind the dish, Murphy will give way to Travis d'Arnaud on Wednesday. Murphy swatted a solo home run in Tuesday's series opener against San Francisco.

  • Braves' Orlando Arcia: Not in starting nine

    Rotowire

Arcia (tooth) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Giants.

Arcia is dealing with an abscessed tooth and will be held out of the starting lineup for a second straight game. Though it's unclear exactly when he'll be available to start, Arcia had the issue addressed Tuesday, so it's likely he'll be cleared in the coming days. Zack Short will bat ninth and play shortstop.

  • Braves' Reynaldo Lopez: Rare regular-rest start Sunday

    Rotowire

Lopez will start on regular rest Sunday versus the Phillies for just the second time this season, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

Lopez struggled in his last start Tuesday versus the Giants, allowing just two runs but walking four over five inefficient innings. Atlanta has baked in extra rest for Lopez whenever it can during the first half as the right-hander shifts from reliever to starter, but he'll take the ball on normal rest against the division-rival Phillies this weekend. With 79.1 innings in 2024, Lopez has already exceeded his workload from each of the previous two seasons.

  • Braves' AJ Smith-Shawver: Cleared for rehab assignment

    Rotowire

Smith-Shawver (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Rome on Wednesday.

Smith-Shawver was diagnosed with a Grade 2 left oblique strain back in late May but has been cleared to return to game action. The young right-hander should be an option for Atlanta's rotation shortly after the All-Star break if all goes well, although it's possible he'll remain in the minors rather than rejoin the major-league club.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: Swats homer No. 10

    Rotowire

Riley went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 5-3 loss to the Giants.

The third baseman took Hayden Birdsong deep in the second inning to open the scoring on the night. Riley's bat has woken up in a big way over the last few weeks -- since June 14, he's slashing .356/.441/.780 in 68 plate appearances with seven of his 10 homers on the year and 12 of his 32 RBI.

    Stats

  • Braves' Reynaldo Lopez: Inefficient in no-decision

    Rotowire

Lopez came away with a no-decision in Tuesday's 5-3 loss to the Giants, allowing two runs on four hits and four walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out six.

The right-hander blanked San Francisco through four innings but was far from efficient, and when he served up back-to-back solo shots to begin the fifth, Lopez got the hook after 101 pitches (57 strikes). He's walked four batters in two straight trips to the mound, while the 4.1 innings represented his shortest start of the year. Despite the recent stumbles, he still hasn't given up more than three earned runs in an outing in 2024. He'll take a 1.83 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 87:31 K:BB through 83.2 innings into his next start, which is scheduled to come at home this weekend against the Phillies.

    Stats

  • Braves' Michael Harris: Could begin running soon

    Rotowire

Harris (hamstring) could begin running soon, Grant McAuley of 929 The Game reports.

Harris is two-and-a-half weeks removed from suffering a Grade 2 left hamstring strain. There is no timetable yet for his return to Atlanta's active roster, but at this point it seems likely that he'll be held out until after the All-Star break. Jarred Kelenic has shifted over to center field to cover for Harris.

  • Braves' Orlando Arcia: Dealing with abscessed tooth

    Rotowire

Arcia is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Giants due to an abscessed tooth, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Arcia dealt with a bout a dizziness last week and is now managing a tooth issue. The abscess is being addressed Tuesday, so the 29-year-old could rejoin the lineup within the next couple days.

  • Braves' Ramon Laureano: Could go on IL with oblique issue

    Rotowire

Laureano's back pain has moved toward his oblique and he may now require a trip to the 10-day injured list, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

Laureano has already been shelved for nearly a week and it appears he may now miss quite a bit more time. The outfielder would be eligible to return before the All-Star break if an IL move is made soon, but being held out until the second half is probably likelier at this point. Adam Duvall has been handling right field with Laureano out.

  • Braves' Orlando Arcia: Absent from lineup

    Rotowire

Arcia is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Giants.

Arcia missed two games last week due to dizziness before returning to play the last four contests. He hasn't suffered any known setback, so this would appear to be a routine day of rest. Zack Short will fill in at shortstop.

  • Braves' Ramon Laureano: Not in lineup Tuesday

    Rotowire

Laureano (back) remains out of the lineup for Tuesday's game versus the Giants.

Laureano hasn't played in nearly a week due to a nagging back issue. The team had expressed hope that he might be ready to go Tuesday, so it's possible it might now consider a stint on the injured list. Adam Duvall will be in right field again Tuesday.

  • Braves' Ian Anderson: On track for return after ASB

    Rotowire

Anderson (elbow) threw three scoreless innings in a rehab start for Single-A Augusta on Sunday, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out one.

After two rehab starts in the Florida Complex League in which he posted a 7:0 K:BB over five innings while giving up just one run, Anderson got bumped up to Single-A and delivered another strong performance as he nears the finish line on his recovery from Tommy John surgery. The right-hander built up to 46 pitches (29 strikes) on Sunday, and he's expected to make at least two more rehab appearances before becoming an option for Atlanta's rotation after the All-Star break.

  • Braves' Ramon Laureano: Could return Tuesday

    Rotowire

Laureano (back) might be ready to rejoin the Atlanta lineup Tuesday against the Giants, Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

The 29-year-old hasn't played since Wednesday due to a sore back. "He's not capable (of playing yet)," manager Brian Snitker said Saturday. "We won't probably use him off the bench. We'll shoot for Tuesday, with tomorrow and the day off. There is enough still going on that I'm hoping with these extra days we can get him built up." Laureano has looked good in his new uniform, going 9-for-35 (.257) with four doubles and a homer over 11 games. In his absence, Adam Duvall has started four straight games in right field.

    Stats

  • Braves' A.J. Minter: Returns from injured list

    Rotowire

Atlanta activated Minter (hip) from the 15-day injured list Monday.

Minter has been on the shelf since late May with left hip inflammation. He made three rehab appearances at Triple-A Gwinnett, allowing two runs (one earned) with a 3:2 K:BB over three frames. Minter should immediately be thrown back into a high-leverage relief role when Atlanta begins its three-game series with the Giants on Tuesday.

  • Braves' A.J. Minter: Expected to be activated Tuesday

    Rotowire

Atlanta is expected to activate Minter (hip) from the 15-day injured list Monday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

While making his third rehab appearance for Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday, Minter tossed a scoreless inning. Assuming his left hip is feeling fine coming out of the minor-league outing, he should join Atlanta for the start of its three-game series versus the Giants. Daysbel Hernandez was optioned to Gwinnett following Atlanta's 4-2 loss to the Pirates on Sunday, creating an opening in the bullpen for Minter.
