Preparing for Dawntrail (2024)

It is roughly 5 weeks until Dawntrail and the preparations are already apace for everyone I’m sure! I’m the sort of person to make sure they get through the main story as soon as possible to ensure I don’t get spoiled. A big part of this for me is making sure that I do all the preparation I can do to ensure my experience is as smooth as possible. Here is a list of things to think about and prioritise if you’ve also got the same sickness as me or if you just have currency you’re not sure what to do with!

DISCLAIMER: All this advice is based on my experience and how things went down in Endwalker, there is every chance they’ll change things up and I cannot promise any of this will prove fruitful in 7.0!

Urgent:

• Getting things done that won’t be available in 7.0 is obviously the most important thing, events like Yokai and Fall Guys could easily be a priority for you if you haven’t done them already.
• Please don’t forget the Garo PvP event for the outfits, titles and mounts. From the sounds of it this runs for the duration of an expansion and no longer, if you have unfinished business it may be worth prioritising this, no confirmation so far though, perhaps keep an eye on the next live letter.
• Malmstone series – We’d expect there to be a new malmstone series so if you want loot from the previous one (the sad emote, emerald weapon minion and the armor) grab it before 7.0

Currencies:

• Capping on most regular currencies will be useful, Causality and Comedy will be turned into Poetics and you’ll be able to buy Augmented Credendum gear day 1 of Dawntrail with it. If you have any jobs you’ve not been able to gear before DT that you want to gear Day 1 ready for at least the first half of MSQ, this is your best bet! If you’re well geared like me, use the poetics to buy gear for desynth.
• If you have lots of Poetics currently, make sure you have casting/scouting gear ready for level 80 Pictomancer and Viper.
• If you have lots of Comedy currently, grab some endgame Endwalker gear for any combat retainers you have, this will keep them more than well up to date for all of Dawntrail.
• If you have lots of gathering purple scrips (or are wondering what to do with those custom delivery scrips) grab some endgame Endwalker gathering scrip gear for your retainers as well.
• PvP currency like Trophy Crystals and Wolf Marks might get new drops, I am almost expecting dyable Alliance Raid gear at this point as Crystal Tower gear got that treatment. Though I’m sure we’d all go crazy for upgraded, dyable Orbonne gear it might be HW raid gear this time. Wolf Marks I’m not optimistic for new stuff but you never know.
• Unsure whether it’s likely that the Hunt Nuts marks will continue in Dawntrail, if they do getting capped on these might be handy to make sure you get any cool new stuff. Early DT hunt trains will likely be very very busy as people get materia.
• The same applies for Bi-Colour gemstones however, capping on these may not be worth it unless you want to spend on new materials. As you earn way more than you can spend unlocking the shared fate log there will be somewhat of an abundance of gemstones early Dawntrail.
• GC Seals: SHB 5.0 lockboxes containing expansion minions and mounts are very possible in DT. Capping on seals may also be worth it if you can.
• Faux Leaves – spank Thordan a few more times before DT if you aren’t capped, due to the limits on claiming these there’s only so much you can do at this stage. But if it can get you ahead on any new cute unreal mounts/minions, it’s worth it.

Generic

• If you run Endwalker dungeons like Tower of Babil, Vanaspati and Ktisis Hyperboreia and get casting/scouting drops it may be worth keeping a hold of them if you can to help with Viper and Pictomancer levelling. The higher your item level, the better the damage, the faster things die, the faster you level. This applies to everyone except people are who levelling in Bozja because your gear is synced down there.
• Grab lots of your fave dyes and start thinking about dye combos (Jet Black/Jet Black IS a combo, I’m telling myself) as we get the 2 channel dyes. Keep your fave cheap dyes on you incase you get some cool glams and want to dye them on the fly. RIP to the ghastly brown I had to finish Endwalker’s cinematic conclusion in, that’s never happening again! General Purpose Dark Blue my sweet summer child, I’ll never let you go.

• Between Friday the 28th of June and Tuesday the 2nd of July you can get 3 journals worth of xp. Pick up your journal on Tuesday the 18th of June, complete this but do not hand it in until Friday the 28th of June. Once you’ve handed it in, pick up your new journal. Complete this and then you can pick up your third on Tuesday the 2nd of July. Make sure your second chances are capped.
• Inventory Management (Ultimate) needs to be recleared, glamour dresser, inventory, armoury chest, those pesky retainers. Have a bit of a sort out. Prioritise ridding yourself of EW raid tokens and things that can be easily and cheaply purchased. EW crafting materials may be used in early DT recipes so I’ll be keeping hold of these if I can.
• You may have noticed a distinct lack of crafting/gathering generally in this list though that is because Teamcraft have done this sort of thing and is viewable here.

Items

These are things it may be handy to stock up on in your inventory:

• Repair Materials
• Aetheryte Tickets
• Gysahl Greens
• Spiritbond Potions
• Levelling food
• Glamour Prisms

Things to do right before Maintenance:

• Mute the Shout/Yell/Say chats in your main chat, people might spoil things. Week 1 of Endwalker on Spriggan people were talking in New Gridania about trial bosses with no filter or code wording in a public chat. I only saw this because I’d already finished MSQ and re-enabled these chat features. People will spoil things either carelessly or maliciously, mute these chats until you’re done.
• Same goes for social media, I know the community has a period of time where they “agree” to no spoilers online. I’m going to be honest, this is just not a reasonable expectation and not how other communities work. Appropriate tags are sufficient you need to be muting tags. #FFXIV #FF14 and #Dawntrail should be sufficient, please take the initiative, don’t rely on other people beyond tagging content.
• Get yourself some snacks/drinks in, treat yourself!
• Maintenance this time will be 48hrs, this is because the update to the game will be large and the devs want to give you plenty of time to download it, check in on when the update goes live. On playstation at least it should auto update long as your console is on and you have that set up.
