As the Seven Deadly Sins anime is coming to a close, it certainly will be worthwhile to look back at some of the characterswho lost their lives during the many battles of the series. Many of these characters capturedthe hearts of fans in one aspect or another.

Even villains who somehow redeemed themselves were met with death rather than the fulfilling end they deserved. Though many other characters died throughout the course of the anime, these deaths are the ones that stung fans the most as they were heartbreaking and unexpected. With all these in mind,whichdeaths were the saddest in the Seven Deadly Sins anime?
10 Monspeet's Death Was Surprisingly Frustrating
Monspeet and Derieri had abandoned the war to live together in peace and quiet in a village but were attacked by Estarossa who had come to claim their commandments. Monspeet was able to pull a fast one on Estarossa and get the upper hand, but the dubious Estarossa initiated an attack aimed at Derieri that forced Monspeet to release his grasp on Estarossa. Monspeet blocked the attack by putting himself in the line of fire for Derieri's sake.
9 Derieri Fought Alongside The HeroesUntil Her Death
After Estarossa regained his memories as Mael, the most powerful Archangel, he went on a rampage. He was furious with Gowther for taking so much away from him. During his rampage, Derieri, who was now fighting alongside the Seven Deadly Sins and the Archangels, came up with a plan to restrain him in an attempt to bring him back to his senses. Tarmiel, however, was heartbroken by the fact that he had to fight his dear friend and eased up on his attack. Seizing this opportunity, Mael broke free from their grasp and struck down Derieri. Fans were disappointed as they expected to see Derieri's character evolve even more.
8 Nadja Tried To Live Life To The Fullest Before Her Inescapable Fate
Nadja was the Princess of Liones who found Gowther the doll under the castle. Over time, the two developed a bond that evolved into love. Unbeknownst to Gowther, Nadja was suffering from a terminal illness and had only a short while to live.

One day while they were both together in Nadja's room, Nadja passed away, leaving Gowther heartbroken. Guards stormed the room and found Gowther trying to replace her heart with his own and arrested him. After this misunderstanding, Gowther was branded the Sin Of Lust.
7 Zhivago's Sacrifice Made Fans Love Him Even More
While growing up, Ban made friends with a rather talented thief known as Zhivago. He helped Ban out a lot and eventually taught him the art of theft. During their reunion several years later, Zhivago passed away quietly. Later on, while Ban was battling Galand and Melascula of the 10 commandments, the two demons attempted to consume Ban's soul. What Galand consumed, however, was Zhivago's soul that was still roaming. Zhivago acted as a decoy to save his son, and Ban was able to escape.
6 Helbram Gave His Life To Atone For The Sins Of His Past
Technically speaking, Helbram had been dead for years but Hendrickson brought him back to life with a forbidden Druid technique known as "Enslavement Of The Dead." He was killed again when battling his old friend Harlequin. Hendrickson arrived and brought Helbram back to life again, only for him to be killed once again by his dear friend Harlequin. Over time, Helbram could only be seen by Harlequin through his helmet. Finally, during a mission to liberate Camelot, the Seven Deadly Sins came across a village whose people had been slaughtered by Helbram. To quell their angry souls that had possessed Dianne, Helbram gave his life one last time.
5 Viewers Had To Say Goodbye To Zaratras Too Soon
The Holy Knight Grand Master Zaratras who was killed at the very beginning of the series was brought back to life by Melascula's powers. Fans were shocked to see the man they all believed to be dead walk into the Boar Hat Tavern and greet Elizabeth.

This reunion, however, was not destined to last as fans were forced to say goodbye to the very lovable and cheerful Grandmaster during his battle with Fraudrin. Zaratras used the power known as "purge" to pull Fraudrin out of Dreyfus' body and sacrificed himself in the process.
4 Drole Sacrificed Himself To Save Dianne Whom He Considered To Be The Next Leader Of The Giant Race
Drole was once the king of the giant race and a proud and powerful warrior. During the Holy War 3000 years ago, he was confronted by Zeldris and forced to join the 10 commandments. After crossing paths with the Seven Deadly Sins, he renounced his commandment and even helped Dianne grow stronger. During their battle against Chandler, Harlequin, Ban, Dianne, and Gowther were overwhelmed by his power. Drole arrived with Gloxinia to fight Chandler and buy time for their allies to escape. Drole was killed by Chandler as he fought to protect Dianne.
3 Gloxinia Died While Protecting Harlequin &His Friends From Chandler
The first Fairy King Gloxinia was also coerced to join the 10 commandments. After doing away with his commandment, Gloxinia helped his successor Harlequin grow in power and experience. While Harlequin and his friends fought Chandler, Gloxinia arrived with Drole to render aid to their new friends. Gloxinia ultimately lost his life alongside Drole. It would have been nice to see Harlequin learn more about being the Fairy King from Gloxina himself.
2 Meliodas May Come Back To Life Every Time He Dies, But His Death Was Really Heartbreaking
Meliodas was cursed with immortality by the Demon King so that every time he died, he came back to life. One time in the series, Meliodas confronted Drole and Gloxinia and overwhelmed them both. Unfortunately, the rest of the 10 commandments arrived and fought Meliodas. When he had been immobilized, Estarossa walked up to him and killed him by stabbing all his hearts. This was a really heartbreaking moment for fans especially as the Demon Race began attacking Liones and Meliodas wasn't there to protect the country.
1 Escanor's Death Was A Big Blow To His Fans
The fan-favoriteEscanor was the Lion's Sin Of Pride of the Seven Deadly Sins and a truly powerful and proud character. Escanor, who was introduced in the second season, has had his fair share of battles with each fight showinghim off in all his glory. During their explosive battle with the Demon King, Escanor went as far as converting his own life energy into power in order to keep him in his prime battle mode. After the Demon King had been vanquished, Escanor, who had used up too much power passed away in a brilliant pillar of fire.
